Centre for Justice (CJ) is one of Ethiopia’s main independent civil society organizations working for systemic and service changes of the Ethiopian Criminal Justice System. Its establishment was spearheaded by individuals who sought to improve things they came across during their incarceration.
CJ blends practical interventions and advocacy campaigns to improve the criminal justice system in general and the condition of inmates in Ethiopia in particular. It stands for human rights and works for their protection and realization through a mix of practical interventions and advocacy works that improve conditions for inmates both at the systemic and service levels at the national and prison levels.
Position: Legal Aid Service Providers Interns
Education: LLB in Law
Experience: 0 year or new graduate

- Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Empowerment of Inmates.
- Non-custodial alternatives to imprisonment
- Capacity building for better management of prisons
- Gender equality in criminal justice institutions
- Networking, collaboration and partnership with a diverse range of stakeholders working in Criminal Justice System
CJ is dedicated to :
- Make criminal justice system protect the rights of vulnerable populations,
- Promote humane and rehabilitative prison environments that align with efforts for environmental sustainability/ Green prison/,
- Provide legal aid services to the poor, women and other groups living in vulnerable situations to increase access to legal aid and assistance,
- Strengthen the work of correction and rehabilitation of prisoners, reintegration of prisoners to the community after serving their time in prison,
- Promoting non-custodial methods of punishment
- Monitor human rights in prisons and detention facilities, assist police detention facilities and prisons in adhering to relevant international human rights standards and promote democracy and peace.
- Run practical human rights programmes that enhance protection of prisoners ‘ rights and support reforms that accelerating crime prevention, criminal justice and the rule of law
- Enhance protection of human rights, the rule of law and the status of peace and an improved justice system
