UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories supporting partner countries to achieve the eradication of poverty, the reduction of inequalities and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). More specifically, UNDP supports partner countries in developing policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and building resilience to sustain development results.
UNDP has operated in Ethiopia since 1981. Since then, UNDP has focused on providing Ethiopia with strategic support to build national capacity and enhance the country’s development results in the areas of poverty reduction and economic growth, democratic governance as well as climate-resilient development.
Position: Internship Opportunity (Multiple)
UNDP has the following internship openings available for 2026 in the following projects, units or initiatives:
- Partnership management
- Administration and Logistics (2 Internships)
- AI University Innovation Pod (2 Internships)
- Timbuktoo ManuTech Hub
- Innovative Finance Lab
- Communication
- Operational data analytics and digitalization
- Election support
- Monitoring and Evaluation of climate projects
- Knowledge management of the support to the National demobilization and Reintegration
- Peacebuilding.
Applicants to the UNDP Ethiopia internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher) in fields such as political science, international relations, development studies, peace and conflict studies, governance, public policy, law, software engineer, climate and environmental science, engineering, economics, logistics, management, communication, or related disciplines is required.
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in these disciplines;
- Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (1) and (2) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
- Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.
Technical Skills (Desirable)
- Data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI, R, SPSS)
- Familiarity with digital innovation, AI, or sustainable finance concepts
- Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills
Language:
- Written and spoken proficiency in English and local language.
- Knowledge of more local languages and other UN languages would be considered an asset.
