Environmental Science Intern at Water Witness International:

Position: Environmental Science Intern

Qualification:

  • Educational background in environmental science, water resources, or related fields.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience or understanding of conducting scoping analyses.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and report writing.

Background:

Are you passionate about environmental science, water quality, and conducting impactful action research? We are seeking a motivated intern with a background in environmental science or related fields to join our team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a vital study focused on the Little Akaki River, addressing key water risks and pollution challenges.

Project Overview:

The internship will involve conducting a scoping and mapping study titled “Scoping and Mapping of Water Security Risks in the Little Akaki River, Mekanisa Area.” This project aims to comprehensively identify water security risks, review the current state of the river, identify major types and sources of pollution, assess associated risks, and document regulatory frameworks.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct desk reviews of existing literature, environmental impact assessments, and government documents related to the Little Akaki River.
  • Participate in fieldwork to identify and map major polluters and key water risks.
  • Interview key stakeholders including government officials, industry representatives, and community members.
  • Analyze collected data to identify trends and correlations related to water quality parameters.
  • Contribute to drafting a comprehensive report detailing study findings and recommendations.
  • Assist in stakeholder engagement efforts through workshops and presentations.

 Duration

  • Two months internship period with possibility of extension.
