Kelem International School (KIS) is the Former Swedish Community School invites qualified applicants for the following position.

The Swedish Community School in Addis Ababa is a school with a Swedish profile. The Swedish School was founded in 1946 and the School has more than 70 years of experience, delivering Swedish education in the English language in a foreign environment.

Today the school offers Preschool, Primary and Lower Secondary and has around 150 children ranging from 3 to 14 years old. The Swedish Community School provides education in English in accordance with the Swedish Curriculum, LGR 11, for compulsory school.

Position: KG Teacher

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education (Early Childhood Education preferred).
  • Proven expertise in early childhood education (through relevant degree, specialization, or work experience).
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and inspire school-age children.
  • Experience teaching diverse learners, including children with special needs.
  • Teaching experience in a public or private school setting (urban experience preferred).
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
  • Competence in evaluating student achievement and learning progress.
  • Commitment to accountability for student outcomes.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years classroom teaching experience.
  • Experience in community or international schools is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and continuously develop expertise in early childhood education.
  • Design and implement lesson plans that meet state learning standards and the school’s specific learning objectives.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers to coordinate lessons, ensuring interdisciplinary reinforcement of concepts.
  • Provide both direct and indirect instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Plan short- and long-term learning activities tailored to individual student needs.
  • Prepare students for all required assessments and evaluate their progress effectively.
  • Produce at least quarterly individual student achievement reports for parents.
  • Create an inviting, stimulating, and innovative classroom environment that fosters curiosity and creativity.
  • Practice effective and positive classroom management strategies.
  • Actively seek and incorporate feedback and coaching from the school’s leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the School Administration.

Working Hours

Hours: 7:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday-Thursday; 7:30 am – 3:30 pm Fridays
