Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) Vacancy 2026:

The Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) is engaged in research, training, and policy engagement in peace, security, and governance across Africa.

Position 1: Junior Researcher

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Peace and Security Studies or a related field is required;
  • BA or MA students currently working on their MA thesis, as well as recent graduates, are eligible to apply;
  • Strong interest in research and policy analysis in peace and security; 
  • Good understanding of African peace and security dynamics is an advantage; 
  • Strong writing and analytical skills; 
  • Ability to work with quantitative and qualitative research methods is desirable; 
  • Proficiency in MS Office and basic data analysis tools; 
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills; 
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. 

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Position 2: Training Coordinator

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Peace and Security Studies, Conflict Studies, Political Science, International Relations, or another closely related field;
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant professional experience in training coordination, capacity development, project management, or related areas;
  • Experience coordinating workshops, seminars, executive education, or professional development programs;
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
  • Experience working with academic institutions, think tanks, development organizations, or international organizations is an advantage.

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Position 3: Institutional Development Manager

Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Master’s degree in Peace and Security Studies, International Relations, Governance, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, International Development or a related field;
  • A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible professional experience in institutional development, organizational development, strategic planning, capacity development, program management, or related areas;
  • Experience working in higher education institutions, research institutes, think tanks, development organizations, regional organizations, or international institutions is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizational strengthening, institutional capacity development, partnership management, and resource mobilization;
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing institutional strategies, policies, systems, and organizational improvement initiatives;
  • Strong evidence demonstrating capacity to conduct monitoring and evaluation (M&E) exercises.
  • Strong analytical, planning, problem, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Position 4: Communications and Information Technology (CIT) Manager

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Communications, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field;
  • At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional experience in communications, information technology, digital engagement, or related fields, including managerial responsibilities;
  • Demonstrated experience in institutional communications and management of information technology services;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of additional languages is an advantage;
  • Strong knowledge of digital communication platforms, website management, information systems, and emerging technologies;
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines;
  • Experience working in academia, research institutions, think tanks, development organizations, or international organizations is desirable.
