Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute is vested with a comprehensive array of powers and duties aimed at fostering artificial intelligence (AI) for national development. It provides research-based AI products and services essential for the country’s progress and formulates both short and long-term research implementation plans in alignment with national development goals.
The Institute establishes and administers international-standard infrastructure to support AI research and development, while also formulating, drafting, and monitoring the implementation of national AI policies, laws, and regulatory frameworks.
Additionally, it creates an ecosystem fostering collaboration between public and private entities in AI activities and provides systems to enhance national AI research capacity and innovation skills. The Institute plays a critical role in collecting, analyzing, and providing data to support national security and the decision-making processes of security forces, ensuring AI’s alignment with national economic and social programs, and supporting urban and land administration, disaster prevention, and environmental management through AI technologies.
