Defend The Environment Job Vacancy

Defend the Environment is a board-led Civil Society Organization (CSO) established by young and vibrant volunteer professionals to promote and protect the environment, fundamental rights, and freedoms through advocacy, legal monitoring, capacity building, awareness creation, public interest litigation, etc. It has been registered by the Agency for Civil Society Organizations of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and accorded legal personality with registry number 5347 on January 18, 2021, as a local organization in accordance with the Organizations of Civil Societies Proclamations No. 1113/2019.

In line with this, Defend the Environment happened to be a leading CSO in Ethiopia, known for presenting public interest litigation matters to the courts on behalf of different communities in the Ethiopian jurisdiction. So far, it has achieved high results in presenting public interest litigation cases in courts established at the federal and state levels.

Position: Intern

Qualifications:

  • Education: Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a law degree program, environmental studies, public policy, or a related field.
  • Interest: Strong interest in environmental law, public interest litigation, and advocacy.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent research and writing skills.
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and research databases.
  • Attributes: Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
