UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories supporting partner countries to achieve the eradication of poverty, the reduction of inequalities and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). More specifically, UNDP supports partner countries in developing policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and building resilience to sustain development results.

UNDP’s Regional Service Centre for Africa (RSCA), based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (serving 46 Country Offices in sub-Saharan Africa) develops high-quality knowledge and policy products and is the organisation’s main interface with regional and continental bodies such as the African Union and the Regional Economic Communities.

Position: Inclusive Growth Team

Education:

  • Enrolled in a Master’s degree programme in a recognized, accredited university in the subject areas of economics, public policy, development studies or a related area

Experience:

  • Work experience is not required, but some relevant work experience would be an asset including experience in international development
  • Computer skills: MS Office proficiency
  • Understanding of and previous research on issues related to international development such as the SDGs, and with knowledge of the UN system is an asset.
  • Excellent drafting and editing skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working collaboratively in small and large multi-cultural teams.
  • Good Graphic Design, Visual Arts and/or Communications skills

Language Requirements:

English required. Knowledge of French is desirable.

Intern requirements:

  • The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
  • Where an intern is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government, foundation or scholarship programme, a stipend intended to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, such as meals and transportation at the duty station, will be paid by UNDP;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • The intern must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
